The Rajiv Gandhi Regional Museum of Natural History in Sawai Madhopur, a city steeped in history in Rajasthan, celebrates the esteemed Ranthambhore Tiger Project. Nestled in the picturesque Village Ramsinghpura, this museum is the fourth of its kind in the Western Region and spans 7.2 acres, just 9 km from the city center. Its mission is to illuminate the natural heritage, flora, fauna, and wildlife of the western region, serving as an educational haven, particularly for children and students.

Complementing the renowned Ranthambhore National Park and cultural treasures like Shilpgram and Ranthambhore Fort, the RG RMNH enhances Sawai Madhopur’s reputation as a top heritage destination in India.

Visitors are welcomed by Gallery 1, which highlights the “Biodiversity of Rajasthan” or “Forests and Wildlife of Rajasthan.” This vibrant exhibition showcases the state’s rich diversity, featuring its plants, animals, wildlife, and forests through engaging digital panels, interactive displays, and stunning photographic representations. The gallery also presents captivating dioramas that depict human interaction with nature and conservation efforts, including a touching tribute to the Bishnoi community, renowned for their sacrifices to protect trees.

The museum’s future plans include several exciting galleries:

  • Gallery 2: Biomes & Ecosystems
  • Gallery 3: Desert
  • Gallery 4: Ecology (Nature’s Network) & Conservation
  • Gallery 5: Origin and Evolution of Life

Facilities such as an auditorium, library, and Khojkaksh (Discovery Room) enhance the visitor experience. The museum is open to the public from 10:00 AM to 05:00 PM, and is closed on Mondays and national holidays.

With its engaging exhibits and educational focus, the Rajiv Gandhi Regional Museum of Natural History not only honors the rich natural legacy of Rajasthan but also inspires a deeper appreciation and understanding of conservation among its visitors.
